Jennifer Hing - Founder and Owner

After nearly 17 years working in politics at the highest state and federal levels, Jennifer Hing began Gateway Strategies, a public and governmental affairs consulting firm which provides strategic counsel and services to impact public policy on the local, national, and international levels.  


For over a decade, Ms. Hing was the Senior Policy and Political Advisor and Director of Communications for the Committee on Appropriations in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Appropriations Committee controls the entire discretionary budget of the United States federal government, totaling approximately $1.5 trillion. In this role, Ms. Hing provided top-level policy and political guidance to Members of Congress, Congressional leadership, and Administration officials. She also directed all public and internal communication related to government spending and budgets, including being the spokesperson (the "face") of the Appropriations process.


Immediately prior to joining the Committee on Appropriations, Ms. Hing served as the Senior Communications and Poltiical Advisor to U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters. Her duties included developing nationwide and international media strategies, directing intergovernmental efforts with Congressional leaders, serving as the Departmental and Secretarial spokesperson, managing departmental staff, and leading crisis communications efforts.


Ms. Hing has also served as the Director of Communications for two senior Congressional Members, including Rep. Joe Knollenberg (former Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee), Rep. Jack Kingston (former Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee), and was a professional staff member for the Speaker of the Oregon State House of Representatives. 

 

Ms. Hing has received several awards and recognitions for her work on Capitol Hill, including winning  the “45 Most Admired Republican Women Under 45” by the Republican Security Council, being named by Elle Magazine as one of 10 Powerful Women of Washington, included in Washington Life Magazine’s2014 list of “Washington’s Most Influential Leaders under 40,”and being profiled in Marie Claire Magazine as one of three women “Change Agents for the Future.”
